Palo Verde Transit Testing New Surveillance System for Buses

The Palo Verde Valley Transit Agency (PVVTA) is now testing and will be employing audio and video surveillance on buses and other PVVTA property throughout the transit system.

Radio Engineering Industries (REI), a leader in onboard video surveillance for the bus industry, has provide the PVVTA with a 4 camera demo system to work out all the difficulties in developing a new surveillance program. REI video systems have been used in high profile cases such as the Kalamazoo school-bus driver beating and Wisconsin state lawmaker vs. bike accident recently in the national news.

This brings our local transit system to a whole new level,” says Transit Manager George Colangeli. “ Now we can ensure a higher level of safety and security to our riders and the motoring public. The opportunity to gain training data for drivers and assist law enforcement when needed with video evidence is huge.”

In the near future, PVVTA will have surveillance systems on all buses which will be funded strictly through Proposition 1B Transit Security grant funds from the California Emergency Management Agency (CalEMA), in accordance with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Transportation Security Agency (TSA).
