CVWD to Dedicate ‘Tom Levy’ Replenishment Facility Wednesday
The Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) will host a dedication ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 21 to celebrate the valley's newest Groundwater Replenishment Facility and honor former CVWD General Manager-Chief Engineer Thomas E. Levy.
This project is a significant milestone in the district's ongoing effort to ensure that a reliable supply of groundwater will continue to be available, across the entire valley, now and for future generations. In 30 years, the groundwater level in the eastern Coachella Valley will be an estimated 25-105 feet higher than it would have been had CVWD not built this facility.
WHAT: Dedication of the Thomas E. Levy Groundwater Replenishment Facility. Speakers include Robert Johnson, former commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation, and Tom Kirk, executive director of Coachella Valley Association of Governments.
WHEN: 9 a.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 21
WHERE: West of the intersection of Avenue 62 and Monroe Street in south La Quinta.
PHOTO/VIDEOGRAPHERS: In addition to speakers and the ceremonial unveiling of the dedication monument sign, several of the 39 recharge ponds will be full of water or in the process of being filled. Special media tours of the 165-acre site and pumping station can be arranged upon request.
