Newly-appointed Riverside County 4th District Supervisor John J. Benoit accepts an award from the Civil Justice Association of California at a luncheon today at the Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert. Kim Stone, Vice President-Legislation makes the presentation on behalf of the CJAC, praising Benoit’s work in the Senate, including his recent “Good Samaritan Protection Act,” SB 39.
Middle School Students Invited to Join Film Fest Essay Contest
Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet is looking to give eight lucky Coachella Valley middle school students the opportunity of a lifetime -- an invitation to attend the 21st annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala as his special guests -- and he’ll do it by inviting them to write an essay explaining why they should walk down the red carpet on Jan. 5 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

Riverside County on Wednesday released the draft environmental impact report for a new regional detention center proposed near the San Gorgonio Pass area in the County’s Fifth District.

COD Street Fair Open Extra Day On Thanksgiving Weekend
College of the Desert’s Alumni Association will expand its popular Street Fair to three days on Thanksgiving weekend. In addition to the regular Saturday-Sunday schedule, the Street Fair will also open Friday, Nov. 27. Hours each day are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Federal Funds Stimulate Mecca Drinking Water Project
More than 60 families in Mecca soon will have access to high quality drinking water, following Coachella Valley Water District's (CVWD's) receipt of a state-federal grant that will fund construction of the facilities necessary to connect a 20-acre mobile home park to the district's domestic water system.

The huge crowd Nov. 7 at the Sixth Annual Jacqueline Cochran Air Show settled down between two military aircraft—one vintage, the other state-of-the-art—as a patriotic prelude to Veterans Day, Nov. 11. The crowd, estimated at 35,000, was treated to some very thrilling aerobatic maneuvers, while the desert weather was absolutely perfect. Recently-appointed Fourth District Supervisor John J. Benoit kicked off the ceremonies, along with other local dignitaries.
