Supervisor Benoit To Organize Fourth District Census Committee
THOUSAND PALMS – Riverside County Supervisor John J. Benoit is seeking volunteers in the Western Coachella Valley unincorporated communities to assist in U.S. Census outreach as part of Benoit’s new Complete Count Committee (CCC). The first meeting will be held Wednesday, February 10 at 4:00 PM at the Thousand Palms Community Center (31-189 Robert Road).
“The 2010 Census will shape the future of our community, define its voice in Congress and generate local employment opportunities for our residents, said Fourth District Supervisor John J. Benoit. “My volunteer committee will assist efforts to obtain the most accurate count of residents in the Fourth District’s unincorporated communities.”
The Complete Count Committee – which will promote the Census to residents in Bermuda Dunes, Desert Edge, Indio Hills, Sky Valley, Sun City Palm Desert, and Thousand Palms – will meet monthly throughout the first half of 2010. The Western Coachella Valley CCC will be modeled after a highly-active CCC in the East Valley, which has met monthly since October. Benoit will host an informational presentation for Palo Verde communities at a later date.
As one of two Supervisor representatives on the countywide CCC, Benoit has formed a significant partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau, conducting presentations at Community Council meetings and hosting informational booths at community events.
Volunteers interested in serving on Benoit’s Census Committee should contact Elizabeth Toledo at (760) 863-8211.
Supervisor John J. Benoit represents the Fourth District on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors. Stretching from the Palm Springs area south to the Salton Sea and east to the Colorado River, it is the largest geographical district in the county.
