Cathedral City’s Sphere of Influence to be discussed at Thursday’s Thousand Palms Community Council Meeting

THOUSAND PALMS – Cathedral City’s sphere of influence (SOI) will be discussed at the regularly scheduled Thousand Palms Community Council meeting, at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Thousand Palms Community Center (31-497 Robert Road).

Representatives of Riverside County, the City of Cathedral City, and the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) will discuss Cathedral City’s application to expand its SOI to include the area generally north of Interstate 10, west of Rio Del Sol, east of Davall and south of the Edom Hill landfill.  Additional discussions will include possibly extending the SOI all the way east to Cook or Washington, future annexation and incorporation.

LAFCO is the agency that reviews applications to modify SOIs.  SOIs designate physical boundaries and service areas that local governmental agencies are expected to serve in the future.  Territory must be within a city or special district’s sphere in order to be annexed in the future.

Thursday’s meeting is open to the public and will be for information purposes only.  A decision about SOIs, annexation or incorporation will not be made at this meeting.
