Riverside County’s Best Young Bands Sought for 2011 Battle of the Bands Competition
INDIO – The search is on for Riverside County’s best young bands to be featured at the Second Annual Battle of the Bands at the 2011 Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival.
Bands made up of Riverside County residents between the ages of 16 and 26 have until Jan. 21 to submit their applications. Seven of the county’s top bands will be chosen to perform from noon to 4 p.m. on the fair’s opening day, Feb. 18, at the Magic Carpet Stage.
Supervisor John J. Benoit’s Youth Advisory Council will review all applications, which must include a demo CD, stage plot, lyrics for all of the songs they will play (at least one cover song) and a photo of the band.
“Last year’s inaugural Battle of the Bands was a popular display of local talent at the Riverside County Fair and great fun for everyone involved,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit. “ This year, thanks to a generous sponsorship, bands will be competing not just for the audience’s adoration, but for premier Fender equipment!”
On competition day, the seven bands will be evaluated on technical performance, originality of songs, professionalism, stage presence, vocals and audience reaction. The winning band will take home Fender music equipment, and the second- and third-place finishers will receive trophies.
