Residents Have Until Jan. 18 to Claim Property Tax Refunds
PALM DESERT – Riverside County property owners and businesses have until Jan. 18 to claim old property tax refunds. Filing instructions and a listing of all unclaimed property tax refunds from tax year 2005 and prior is available on the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Web site at http://www.countytreasurer.org/TaxCollector/UnclaimedMoney/PropertyTaxUnclaimedRefund.aspx.
More than 7,400 refunds totaling $4,130,306.43 remain unclaimed. The unclaimed refunds include: $92,988.13 for Marriott entities (Essex House Condominium Corporation, Marriott International, Marriott Ownership Resorts, Marriott Vacation Club), $12,518.81 for Corona-based Robertson’s Ready Mix, $9,351.72 for Tommy Bahama and $6,026.35 for 24-Hour Fitness clubs.
State law provides that property tax refunds that remain unclaimed for four years after the payment date or one year after the mailing of the claim form (whichever is later) may be transferred to the county general fund on order of the Board of Supervisors. After Jan. 18, money left unclaimed will become the property of the county and can no longer be claimed.
Completed claim forms and supporting documentation should be mailed to:
