Youth in Government Day to Pair County Mentors with Students
INDIO – High school students from the Coachella Valley will shadow Supervisor John J. Benoit and 27 county employees Thursday in the Eighth Annual Fourth District Youth in Government Day program. The students will meet their mentors at 8:30 a.m. in Rm 402 of the Workforce Development Center in Indio (44-199 Monroe St.).
“This program offers a great opportunity for students to get a glimpse into the rewarding career choices available in public service,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit. “Some students will ride along with public safety agencies, witness court trials, inspect restaurants and see county government in action. I look forward to sharing a day in the life of a Supervisor.”
After six hours of job shadowing, the students will regroup at the Workforce Development Center at 3 p.m.
Participating county departments include: Cal Fire, Sheriff’s Department, District Attorney’s Office, Probation, Economic Development Agency, Transportation and Land Management, Social Services, Law Offices of the Public Defender, Office on Aging and the Environmental Health Agency. Larry Ward, Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder, and Riverside Superior Court Judge John Evans are scheduled to participate.
