Supervisor Benoit to Observe International Holocaust Remembrance Day

PALM DESERT – Supervisor John J. Benoit will speak at a ceremony observing International Holocaust Remembrance Day at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Holocaust Memorial in the Palm Desert Civic Center Park (northeast corner of Fred Waring Drive and San Pablo Avenue).

“The Holocaust was one of the worst horrors perpetrated on an entire people,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit.  “The International Holocaust Remembrance Day honors the memory of the victims, survivors and liberators and ensures that we will never forget this horrible chapter in human history.”

Jan. 27 marks the 66th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.  Since 2005, the United Nations General Assembly has designated Jan. 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
