Supervisor Benoit Announces Battle of the Bands Finalists
PALM DESERT – Supervisor John J. Benoit today announced the seven finalists that will perform in the Battle of the Bands on the fair’s opening day, Feb. 18. The local bands will compete for the grand prize of a Gretsch drum kit and brand-new line of premier Fender instruments that includes a bass guitar, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass amp and guitar amp.
“Thanks to Fender’s generosity, one Riverside County youth band will be among the very first to own these top-of-the-line instruments,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit. “Manufactured locally in Corona, these instruments are of the highest quality and will no doubt make the proud owners the envy of the music scene.”
The seven finalists are: A Beating Heart (Riverside), Dead End Paradox (Palm Desert), Grow Well (Palm Desert), Jekkel (Bermuda Dunes), June, Like The Month (Nuevo), New College Try (La Quinta) and News of the Fire (La Quinta). On competition day, the seven bands will be evaluated on technical performance, originality of songs, professionalism, stage presence, vocals and audience reaction.
The bands, which were selected by the Fourth District Youth Advisory Council, will perform from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Magic Carpet Stage of the Riverside County Fairgrounds (82-503 Highway 111, Indio).
The 65th Annual Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival will run from Feb. 18 through Feb. 27. Admission prices and ticket purchasing information can be found at www.datefest.org.
