Benoit to Speak at Dick Kelly Bridge Dedication
PALM DESERT – Supervisor John J. Benoit will join local leaders and members of late Palm Desert City Councilman Richard S. Kelly’s family for the dedication of the Portola Bridge at 10 a.m. Friday.
“Dick Kelly was a wonderful man who left a legacy of dedicated leadership on roads, streets, highways and infrastructure improvements in our region,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit. “He was one of the Coachella Valley’s most ardent supporters and boosters, and I’m pleased that pedestrians and motorists will forever be reminded of his service to our community.”
A pilot with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, Dick Kelly had a 36-year career with the phone company prior to serving on the Palm Desert City Council from 1982 to 2010.
Parking for the event will be available on Portola, south of Hovely Lane. For more information about Friday’s ceremony, please contact Frankie Riddle, director of special programs at the City of Palm Desert, at 760-346-0611 X331.
