Benoit to Highlight Redevelopment Successes to Local Legislators
PALM DESERT – Continuing his call for state lawmakers to preserve redevelopment agencies, Supervisor John J. Benoit will highlight redevelopment’s benefits at a public hearing held by Assemblyman Brian Nestande and Senator Bill Emmerson at 1 p.m. Friday at the Palm Desert City Council Chambers (73-510 Fred Waring Drive).
“Gov. Brown’s redevelopment proposal challenges how Riverside County moving forward can eradicate blight, build affordable housing and bring much-needed jobs and public projects to revitalize communities,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit. “I commend Assemblyman Nestande and Senator Emmerson for holding this important discussion with local governments and residents in their districts.”
Gov. Brown’s budget proposal would eliminate community redevelopment agencies. After retiring redevelopment debts and contractual obligations, remaining property taxes would be shifted to fund schools, Medi-Cal, trial courts and other services.
Friday’s hearing will also feature presentations from the redevelopment agencies for the cities of Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage.
