Benoit to Commemorate Memorial Day at East Valley Memorial
COACHELLA – Riverside County Supervisor John J. Benoit will remember the soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country Monday at the Coachella Valley Cemetery in Coachella (82-925 Avenue 52).
Benoit will present the keynote address at the 9 a.m. Memorial Day service by the American Legion and East Valley Veterans Ceremonial Committee.
“Memorial Day is an important day set aside to reflect and to remember all the men and women who did not come home from combat,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit. “Memorial Day reminds us that, throughout America’s 234-year history, our cherished liberties came at a steep price.”
Indio Police Department Chaplain Wayne Hoy will offer the invocation and benediction. Members of Indio High School’s California Cadet Corps, 158th Battalion, and Boy Scouts of America Troop 377 will conduct ceremonial duties. The Southwest Singers will perform patriotic songs. Greg Cervantes, district director for Assemblyman Manuel Perez, will preside over the ceremony.
Dedicated on Veterans Day 2006, the East Valley Veterans Memorial is a special memorial built on land donated by the Coachella Valley Cemetery. The memorial features the ultimate sacrifice wall and two walls of honor for Riverside County veterans and Medal of Honor recipients.
