Benoit to Open Saturday’s Jacqueline Cochran Air Show
THERMAL – Supervisor John J. Benoit will provide welcoming remarks to open the 8th Annual Jacqueline Cochran Air Show at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport in Thermal (56-850 Higgins).
“There will be many sights and activities for everyone to enjoy at the Jacqueline Cochran Air Show,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit. “I encourage all county residents to take their families to see this fascinating annual attraction.”
Presented by the Riverside County Economic Development Agency and the Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport Authority, the free show will feature demonstrations of precision aerial maneuvers from the U.S. Air Force’s F-16 Viper West Coast and C-17 demonstration teams.
Additional performances include the extreme aerobatics of returning show favorites Jon Melby in his highly modified Pitts S-1-11B bi-plane and Melissa Aerobatics in her Edge540 aircraft, professional skydivers from the Golden Stars Skydiving Team, Rob Harrison “The Tumbling Bear,” and Doug Jardine.
There will be more than 50 food, merchandise and specialty booths, a variety of vintage, military and civilian aircraft on display and a kids’ zone for families to enjoy.
Airport Boulevard is closed due to construction of the bridge at Airport Boulevard and State Route 86S. Drivers should take the detour by traveling six miles south on Jackson Street from Interstate 10, then turning left onto Airport Boulevard.
Parking is free, but early arrival is encouraged to allow time for shuttles to transport attendees from the parking area to the airport.
