County to Conduct Community Clean-Ups Saturday
BERMUDA DUNES – Residents will have opportunities to dispose of bulky trash items and household hazardous waste at events in Bermuda Dunes and in the Blythe area Saturday.
Residents of Bermuda Dunes and Sun City Palm Desert communities can have their bulky trash items picked up at the curb. Residents must call Burrtec at 760-340-2113, before 5 p.m. Thursday to schedule the appointment and items must be at the curb by 6 a.m. Saturday. For safety reasons, apartment and duplex residents must take their bulky items and up to 9 tires to the parking lot of James Monroe Elementary School, 42-100 Yucca Ln., from 8 a.m. to noon.
Residents of the Blythe area communities of Ripley and Mesa Verde may drop off their items at the vacant cotton gin in Ripley, off S. Neighbours Boulevard, from 8 a.m. to noon.
A utility bill or driver’s license/ID will be required as proof of community residence.
Acceptable bulky items include tires – up to nine per trip, bundled tree trimmings, furniture, scrap metal, TVs, monitors and appliances. Hazardous material, batteries, pool chemicals, paint, transmission and brake fluids, herbicides, fertilizers, gasoline, tub and tile cleaners and bleach will not be accepted.
These events are made possible by Community Development Block Grant funds and through a collaborative effort between Riverside County’s Economic Development Agency, Department of Environmental Health and Code Enforcement and Burrtec Waste & Recycling Services.
The Riverside County Waste Management Department will be hosting a free household hazardous waste collection event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the County Administration Center in Blythe, 260 North Broadway St. This event is open to all Riverside County residents disposing up to 50 pounds or five gallons of residentially generated household hazardous waste
Acceptable wastes include: used motor oil, paint, antifreeze, household and automotive batteries, pesticides, cleaning products, sharps (needles/syringes or lancets), fluorescent lamps and electronic wastes such as televisions, computers, VCRs and telephones. The collection will not accept: explosives, radioactives, ammunition, asbestos, compressed gas cylinders over 40 pounds and infectious or medical waste other than sharps.
