Office Hours, Bidders’ Workshop Available to Assist Air Quality Project Applicants

PALM DESERT – Supervisor John J. Benoit announced Thursday the availability of local office hours and a bidders’ workshop by South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) staff to answer questions about proposed air pollution reduction projects.

The AQMD recently released a request for proposals for projects to reduce air pollution in the Coachella Valley. The projects will be funded by $53 million in mitigation fees from the Sentinel Energy Project under construction near Desert Hot Springs.

“I commend AQMD staff for facilitating this one-on-one assistance to groups seeking to develop proposals that meet the requirements of this fund,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit. “I encourage applicants to attend these office hours for the technical help they may need.”

The series of office hours follow a bidders’ workshop, which will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. March 15 at the University of California, Riverside’s Palm Desert Campus. The schedule for office hours is:

Applicants should schedule their appointment ahead of time by calling either Arlene Martinez at 909-396-2250 or Tracy Goss at 909-396-3106. Appointments will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis in 30-minute blocks of time.

Residents or organizations who want to submit a proposal can find details at the AQMD’s Web site, www.aqmd.gov, and also on Benoit’s Web site, www.rivco4.org/web/highlights/smfund.html. The deadline to submit a proposal is 5 p.m. June 8.
