San Jose Community and Bea Main Learning Center to be Dedicated Friday
OASIS – A community center providing after-school programs to children and services to residents of three dozen mobile home parks will be dedicated at 4 p.m. Friday. The San Jose Community & Bea Main Learning Center is located in the Oasis community at 69-455 Pierce St.
"This community center will be an important place for meetings of non-profit organizations, health clinics, civic activities and after-school programs for the residents of Mecca, Oasis and Thermal,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit. “I am happy to see this day arrive after so many years of fundraising and hard work on this community-driven service project."
The San Jose Community & Bea Main Learning Center began as two donated module units. In the period of six years, volunteers raised substantial private donations to install new walls and sprinklers and remake the interior with a new floor, new bathrooms, a new kitchen and a storage area. Another component of the project is a computer lab with 25 computers.
Supervisor John J. Benoit will be joined by Bishop Gerald R. Barnes, Diocese of San Bernardino, Carolina Zaragoza Flores of the Mexican Consulate in San Bernardino and community leaders.
