Funeral Service for Jim Porras to be Held Saturday
INDIO – The funeral for Jim Porras will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18 at Destiny Church in Indio, 82-625 Showcase Pkwy., Ste. 100. Porras, who served 17 years on the Riverside County Planning Commission and 3 years on the former East Area Planning Council, passed away Aug. 3 of a heart attack in Indio.
Porras, 59, graduated from Coachella Valley High School in 1971 and from Pomona College, majoring in international studies, in 1976. He married Linda Nichols in 1999.
Porras was a teacher and professional volunteer at Coachella Valley High School for 17 years. He was a member at large, and on the bargaining committee, for the Coachella Valley Teachers Association. He was a tri-athlete, a Tamale Festival judge for 10 years and a board member for the Indio Performing Arts Center.
Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers a donation fund has been created for his son Ryan at Bank of America, Indio branch, in the name of Linda Porras.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmie V. Porras. Survivors include his loving wife, Linda D. Porras; son, Ryan James Porras; step-children Andrea Hernandez, Eric Cisneros and Michael Reyes; mother, Catalina (Katy) G. Porras; brothers Mark Porras and Gary Porras; sisters Syliva Porras, Trish Mills (Jerry) and Marina Vasquez (Jesse); many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and much loved dog, Lucky Porras.
