Supervisor Benoit, YMCA Launch February Drive To Collect Emergency Cell Phones For Seniors
PALM DESERT – Riverside County Supervisor John J. Benoit today launched a month-long drive to collect cell phones to benefit seniors in the Riverside County Office on Aging 911 Emergency Cell Phone Program. Through Supervisor Benoit’s partnership with the YMCA and Riverside County Office on Aging, donated cell phones will be collected and delivered to at-risk elders for emergency 911 use only. The program will reach seniors who are 60 years of age or older, who live alone or with caregivers, and are no longer able to drive and may have difficulty reaching a stationary phone.
“This donation drive will bring security and peace of mind to elders who may find themselves in a life threatening or emergency situation requiring 911,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit.

All donated cell phones should be equipped with the manufacturer’s battery and charging equipment. Supervisor John J. Benoit represents the Fourth District on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors. Stretching from the Palm Springs area south to the Salton Sea and east to the Colorado River, it is the largest geographical district in the county.
