Martha’s Village to Receive $40,000 from County on Thanksgiving
PALM DESERT – On Thanksgiving, Martha’s Village & Kitchen, a full-service homeless shelter in Indio, will receive $40,000 from Riverside County to fund shelter, food and other basic needs. Supervisor John J. Benoit will make a special presentation at 7:30 a.m. Thursday to kick off the 6th Annual Thanksgiving Day 5k Run/Walk at The Gardens on El Paseo in Palm Desert.
“Martha’s Village helps those less fortunate in our community pull through the financial challenges that try them and return to better financial footing,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit. “ On a day for sharing joy and focusing on the positive things in life, I’m pleased to assist the shelter and its worthy services in the Coachella Valley.”
The 5k run/walk is the shelter’s largest fundraising event. Proceeds from the event will help the shelter serve a quarter million meals in 2013.
All participants in the 5k will receive a t-shirt and continental breakfast. Registration is $39 for ages 13 and up and $24 for ages 6-12. Race day registration will be available from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. Up-to-date event information is available at www.marthasvillage.org.
Supervisor Benoit, with the approval of the Board of Supervisors, allocated these funds from the Fourth District community improvement designation fund.
