Classic Cars, RVs and Model Trains to Provide Fun-Filled Saturday at Fairgrounds in Indio
INDIO – Many activities for a fun-filled Saturday, including a classic car show, can be found at the Riverside County Fairgrounds in Indio at 9 a.m. Dec. 8. Admission and parking at the Fairgrounds is free, and spectators and show cars should enter via Gate 6 on Dr. Carreon Blvd.
The show is open to all classic and special interest cars and people can enter their car on the day of show at the 7:30 a.m. check-in for $25. The fee includes two passes for the 2013 Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival. Proceeds will fund scholarships for the Riverside County Dollars for Scholars, 4-H and FFA Scholarship Fund.
From 10 a.m. to noon, people can meet and take their picture with Queen Scheherazade and her Court, the ambassadors of the Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival.
“There will be a lot of fun, free, family activities coming to the Fairgrounds this Saturday,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit. “I am glad to see the classic car show event come to the Fairgrounds and support the youth in agricultural programs.”
Supervisor Benoit will judge the top classic car and present the Supervisor’s trophy at 3 p.m. The Mayor’s trophy and Fair Board’s trophy will also be awarded.
In addition, families can enjoy free admission to the 13th Annual Palm Springs Area RV Show, south of the Taj Mahal Building, and visit the model railroad display, open on special occasion, in the Crafts and Hobbies Building. Members of the Coachella Valley Model Railroaders will be available to answer questions.
The Shalimar Off-Track Betting facility is also open for wagers on horse races, and Christmas trees will be on sale at the front entrance to the Fairgrounds on Highway 111. Food and frozen lemonade will be available for purchase near the classic car show or enjoy sit-down, air conditioned dining at the Shalimar’s restaurant.
