Benoit to Distribute Food to Eastern Coachella Valley Families
OASIS – Supervisor John J. Benoit will join in the distribution of turkeys, chicken, canned goods and other foods to 600 needy eastern Coachella Valley families at 3 p.m. Thursday.
The food distribution will occur at the San Felipe Community & Migrant Housing Complex in Oasis, 67-305 Harrison St. (Old Highway 86).
The food is donated by The Galilee Center, a non-profit organization that provides food, clothing and other basic needs to underprivileged and disadvantaged families in the Coachella, Mecca, North Shore, Oasis and Thermal communities. Additionally, families will receive vegetables, rice, beans, tortillas and cereal.
“Supervisor Benoit has been tremendously supportive of The Galilee Center for the past two and a half years,” said Gloria Gomez, founder of The Galilee Center. “Supervisor Benoit cares about the community, and it is great he will be helping us in our Christmas food distribution.”
The Galilee Center was started in summer 2010 by Gloria Gomez and Claudia Castorena, co-founders of Martha’s Village & Kitchen in Indio. The Galilee Center will distribute toys and clothing to families on Christmas Day.
