Benoit to be Honored as Palm Desert Rotary Citizen of the Year
PALM DESERT – Supervisor John J. Benoit will be honored as the Citizen of the Year at the Palm Desert Rotary Club Foundation’s annual scholarship benefit Thursday. The luncheon begins at noon at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, 74-855 Country Club Dr.
“Supervisor Benoit has been untiring in his efforts to improve the lives of residents of Riverside County and especially the eastern Coachella Valley, an area that is near and dear to our Rotary Club,” said Ricardo Loretta, president of the Palm Desert Rotary Club. “He is frequently in the field supporting our projects and inspires us to keep these efforts going through his example. For this reason, we are proud to honor him as our Citizen of the Year.”
In the last 30 years, the event has raised more than $375,000 for scholarships for Palm Desert High School seniors and College of the Desert students. Tickets cost $65. Scholarship sponsorships are available for $2,000, which includes a table for 10.
Former Supervisor Corky Larson, Palm Desert Councilmember Jan Harnik and Sue Steding, former chief assistant district attorney, will share testimonials about the honoree. Supervisor Benoit will accept the award and provide a review of the county’s accomplishments and his goals for the eastern Coachella Valley.
“I’ve been involved in Rotary for 25 years and to receive this prestigious award from the Palm Desert Rotary Club is truly humbling,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit. “My main area of focus has been on improving conditions in the eastern Coachella Valley, and the county’s commitment to this area is immense and ongoing. We are so delighted to have as a partner, the Rotary, an organization united behind humanitarian projects to assist our neighbors in the east valley.”
