Some Parking near Larson Justice Center to be Closed for Construction of New Parking Structure
INDIO – Beginning Wednesday, June 11, a lot used for overflow parking for visitors to the Larson Justice Center in Indio will be closed for the construction of the East County Parking Structure.
Jurors will still have access to existing parking adjacent to the Larson Justice Center and to the east on Highway 111, but overflow parking at the southeast corner of Oasis Street and Plaza Avenue will temporarily be at the county fairgrounds until the new structure is completed.
“It will be inconvenient but only for a half-year, until completion of greatly improved public parking for these facilities and also the Date Festival,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit.
The parking lot in front of the Fullenwider Auditorium, off Arabia Street, will be available for temporary overflow parking. Pedestrians and vehicles should take extra precautions when traveling through Highway 111 and Oasis Street due to potential increase in vehicular and pedestrian traffic activities.
Over the summer, construction will start on an 837-space parking structure and adjacent lot to replace 436 spaces in the current lot. The three-story covered parking structure will serve the courts, the Indio Law Building and the future East County Detention Center, improving parking for the staff and public and including supplemental parking for the Fair.
The parking lot is expected to be closed through January 2015.
