Coachella Valley Cities, County to Celebrate Extraordinary Seniors Friday
PALM DESERT – All nine Coachella Valley cities and the County of Riverside will honor their most outstanding senior citizen volunteers at the 23rd annual Senior Inspiration Awards at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 10.
More than 500 people annually attend this luncheon, which will be held at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, 74-855 Country Club Dr.
This major event was established in 1992 by then-Supervisor Corky Larson to recognize the community’s unsung heroes, senior citizens 70 years of age and older who inspire others through their volunteerism and connection to the community.
“The Senior Inspiration Awards honors caring citizens who give countless hours of service to make our community such a wonderful place to live,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit. “They are role models for all ages who inspire us through their active lifestyles and exemplary volunteer spirit. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to get to know this year’s honorees and hear their fascinating life stories!”
Former Riverside County Supervisor Corky Larson and former Palm Desert Councilwoman Jean Benson, who has served on the Senior Inspiration Awards committee since the beginning, will receive special recognition at this year’s event.
Along with Larson and Benson, the 2015 honorees are: Christine Viau and Edward Coleman (Riverside County), Eleanor Kincannon (Cathedral City), Evangeline Garcia (Coachella), Amalia De La Riva (Desert Hot Springs), Sally Simonds (Indian Wells), Charles “Chuck” Lambert (Indio), Dick Anderson (La Quinta), Saul Roisentul (Palm Desert), Carrie Allan (Palm Springs) and Marcia Stein (Rancho Mirage).
Brooke Beare and Patrick Evans of CBS Local 2 will again serve as the masters of ceremonies.
Tickets are still only $25 per person and include soup, lunch entrée and dessert. Tickets are available to purchase until noon Tuesday by calling Pat Cooper at 760-863-2556.
The Senior Inspiration Awards is hosted by Supervisor Benoit, the Regional Access Project Foundation and the cities of the Coachella Valley (Cathedral City, Coachella, Desert Hot Springs, Indian Wells, Indio, La Quinta, Palm Desert, Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage).
