Benoit Seeks Applicants for Date Festival Board Opening
PALM DESERT – Coachella Valley and Blythe area residents who have a deep appreciation and knowledge of the Date Festival are encouraged to apply to serve on the board that helps produce this long-running tradition.
Supervisor John J. Benoit is seeking applicants this month to fill an opening on the Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival Advisory Board, the Fair Board. Applicants must be registered Riverside County voters living in the Coachella Valley or Blythe area.
“Fair Board members have a vital role in recommending entertainment, attractions, educational programs and capital improvements for the Fair,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit. “If you love the Fair and want to be an active part of ensuring our visitors have an unforgettable experience, please consider applying for this rigorous, but also fun and rewarding opportunity.”
The Fair Board meets year-round and supports the Fair Manager and other Riverside County Economic Development Agency Fair and marketing staff. In addition to planning and organizing the Fair, Fair Board members are instrumental to raising funds and selecting recipients for the Queen Scheherazade Scholarship Pageant and the Magic Carpet Scholarship program for students in agricultural clubs.
Another duty of Fair Board members is to serve as ambassadors of the Fair, meeting and greeting the public and interacting with the vendors and food concessionaires during the Fair’s 10-day run. Fair Board members promote the Fair in the community, attend opening ceremonies, ride in the President’s Day Parade and appear on stage before each nightly Arabian Nights Pageant.
The Fair Board is comprised of nine members: two from the Fourth Supervisorial District, one from each of the other four supervisorial districts, and three from fair-related organizations, including the county agricultural and date industries and county educational institutions. Fair Board members serve without compensation.
