Statement from Chairman Benoit on Passing of Former Supervisor Venable
Supervisor Benoit offers the following statement on the passing of James Venable, who served as Riverside County Third District Supervisor from 1996 to 2005:
“Jim Venable was a sincere, dedicated public servant who was committed to giving back to his community. He served Riverside County with distinction and will be remembered fondly by many.
“My own memories of the late supervisor include a meeting we had at the French Valley airport, where I flew in to meet with him as a newly elected member of the Assembly. He was thrilled to learn that I was a fellow pilot and was able to fly to his office, which was conveniently located at the airport.
“We had a warm meeting, and I remember being struck by how genuine and unassuming he was. A Hemet native, Jim never forgot his deep roots in Riverside County. He was a plainspoken guy with love of off-road racing, flying and outdoor adventure.”
In honor of Supervisor Venable, the American flag, the state flag and the POW/MIA flag will be flown at half-staff at all county-owned and leased facilities from March 17 to March 25.
