Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors Meeting Postponed to Honor Fallen Palm Springs Police Officers
PALM DESERT – Out of respect for the families of the Palm Springs Police Department officers killed in the line of duty Saturday, Tuesday’s (10/18) Riverside County Board of Supervisors meeting in the Coachella Valley has been postponed.
A memorial service for Palm Springs police officers Jose “Gil” Vega and Lesley Zerebny has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Riverside County Board Chairman John J. Benoit has postponed the Board meeting to attend the service and allow other members of the county family to attend.
“The loss of these two officers, great individuals who were called to protect the citizens and community, is an enormous and devastating loss felt by our community, state and nation,” Benoit said. “We remember and honor Officers Vega and Zerebny, pray for the full recovery of the wounded police officer, and support Palm Springs and the men and women in law enforcement through this difficult time.”
The Board meeting was scheduled to be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday (10/18) at the Palm Desert City Council Chambers. The next meeting will be held in the regular location, the County Administrative Center in Riverside, on Oct. 25. A meeting in the Coachella Valley will be rescheduled once a date can be determined.
In honor of Officers Vega and Zerebny, the American flag, the state flag and the POW/MIA flag will be flown at half-staff at all county-owned and leased facilities until Monday (10/17).
