Community Clean-Up and Free Trash Disposal Set for Saturday, with Locations in Mecca and North Shore

MECCA – All residents of Riverside County have the opportunity to bring their non hazardous household waste, including tires, for free disposal at two locations in the eastern Coachella Valley on Saturday, March 25.

The “Great Coachella Valley Clean-Up” will take place from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Bins will be placed at two locations for residents to dispose of their trash items: the corner of Avenue 66 and Dale Kiler Road in Mecca and Avenue 70 and Vander Veer Road in North Shore.

In addition to the disposal drop-off, the Riverside County Code Enforcement Department will have a team of four officers to pick up illegally dumped tires they find in the communities. High school students in the Fourth District Youth Advisory Council will also volunteer.

Items accepted at the event include tires (no rims) – up to nine per trip, furniture, unwanted household items, large appliances, bundled tree limbs and branches, electronic waste and small appliances.

Hazardous materials will NOT be accepted, including batteries, pool chemicals, transmission and brake fluids, herbicides, fertilizers, gasoline, motor parts, fluorescent light bulbs, paint, antifreeze, engines, motor oil, tub and tile cleaners and bleach.

Up to 15 gallons, or 125 pounds, of the above household hazardous waste items can be taken for free to the Waste Resources Department’s permanent collection site in Palm Springs, 1100 Vella Rd. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, and at temporary sites throughout the year. More information is available at or by calling 951-486-3200.

The Great Coachella Valley Clean-Up is made possible by the Riverside County’s Economic Development Agency and Code Enforcement Department, and Burrtec Waste & Recycling Services, with the support of Supervisor John J. Benoit’s office. The event is sponsored in part with Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.
