First Emprendedores Program Class to Graduate Thursday

INDIO – Fourteen local individuals who received entrepreneurship training to guide them in starting a business will be recognized at a graduation ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 5.

The Emprendedores program, an eight-week program that launched Aug. 15, will conclude its inaugural class with a graduation ceremony at 5 p.m. Thursday. The program was offered by Riverside County in partnership with the Consulate of Mexico in San Bernardino, and was provided in Spanish at no cost.

Supervisor V. Manuel Perez and other community leaders and partners will give remarks and present completion certificates. Several of the graduates, who are already launching businesses, will exhibit products and services at the event.

“I am proud that Riverside County and the Mexican Consulate provided this program to help entrepreneurs overcome certain barriers, including language, and guide them on the path to creating their own business,” said Supervisor V. Manuel Perez. “This program has been well received and will encourage small business creation in the fast growing Hispanic business community. I wish the graduates all the best as they work hard to make their businesses succeed and provide a better future for our families and communities.”

The Emprendedores program consisted of two-hour training sessions that covered business essentials including: creation of a business plan, marketing and social media, sales, business financing and human resources. Following the program, graduates will receive further assistance with one-on-one counseling at the Coachella Valley Small Business Development Center.

The next Emprendedores program will run for six weeks, from Nov. 1 to Dec. 6. There are spaces in the program still available. For more information and to register, call 760-848-4096.

The public is invited to Thursday’s ceremony, which will be held at the Coachella Valley Small Business Development Center. The center is operated by the Riverside County Economic Development Agency and is located within the Workforce Development Center in Indio, 44-199 Monroe St.
