Supervisor Perez Presents Gala de Mariachi at the McCallum Theatre October 19 Tickets Available Free of Charge Oct. 5
PALM DESERT – Some of the world’s finest mariachi groups are coming to perform with the Coachella Valley’s professional symphony orchestra to provide an enthralling evening of music and culture to the community.
The first-ever Gala de Mariachi, presented by Supervisor V. Manuel Perez, is taking place at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert at 7 p.m. Saturday, October 19.
The performance features Mariachi Sol de México de José Hernandéz and Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano. Both mariachi groups, which are part of the world renowned National Mariachi Company, will perform with the Coachella Valley based Desert Symphony, bringing two parts of the world together through the universal language of music.
Tickets will be required to get in, but admission to this special performance is free. Tickets must be picked up at the McCallum Theatre box office between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5. The McCallum Theatre is located in Palm Desert, 73-000 Fred Waring Dr.
This historic ensemble celebrates mariachi, an iconic representation of Mexican culture and Latino identity. Gala de Mariachi is part of binational and cultural exchange efforts that Supervisor Perez is initiating between the County of Riverside and the City of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, the birthplace of mariachi and home to the International Mariachi Festival.
“I have visited the International Mariachi Festival of Guadalajara and the blend of mariachis playing with the orchestra is extraordinary,” said Supervisor Perez. “This is an honor to have this performance in Riverside County, in the valley at the prestigious McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert. It is my hope that you join us and celebrate amazing talent, spirit, culture and tradition.”
Gala de Mariachi is made possible by the generous sponsorship of Harold Matzner.
More details will be announced leading up to the performance.
