Supervisor Benoit To Organize Fourth District Census Committee

THOUSAND PALMS – Riverside County Supervisor John J. Benoit is seeking volunteers in the Western Coachella Valley unincorporated communities to assist in U.S. Census outreach as part of Benoit’s new Complete Count Committee (CCC). Supervisor Benoit, YMCA Launch February Drive To Collect Emergency Cell Phones For Seniors

PALM DESERT – Riverside County Supervisor John J. Benoit today launched a month-long drive to collect cell phones to benefit seniors in the Riverside County Office on Aging 911 Emergency Cell Phone Program. Through Supervisor Benoit’s partnership with the YMCA and Riverside County Office on Aging, donated cell phones will be collected and delivered to at-risk elders for emergency 911 use only. The program will reach seniors who are 60 years of age or older, who live alone or with caregivers, and are no longer able to drive and may have difficulty reaching a stationary phone.

PALM DESERT – Supervisor John J. Benoit today announced the five finalists for the Battle of the Bands contest, to be held on Friday, February 12 from 12-4 PM. The local bands, selected by the Fourth District Youth Advisory Council, will compete at the Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival for a $1,000 grand prize.

Supervisor Benoit To Dedicate New Bermuda Dunes Community Service Center Thursday

BERMUDA DUNES – Riverside County Supervisor John J. Benoit will be officially dedicating the Bermuda Dunes Community Service Center (78-400 Avenue 42) at a ceremony to be held on Thursday, January 14 at 5 PM. Other speakers include: Tom Freeman from the Economic Development Agency, John Boyd, Director of Code Enforcement, Assistant Sheriff Colleen Walker, and Cheryl Isen from the Bermuda Dunes Community Council. After the ceremony, Benoit will be welcomed at a meeting of the Bermuda Dunes Community Council at 6 PM, the first to be held in the new center.

The renovation of the North Shore Yacht Club is proceeding apace, as this photo shows. When completed, the historic structure will function as a community center, it will also be home to the new Salton Sea History Museum and Visitor Center. Its preservation saves an important piece of Albert Frey architecture.
